Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1/4 cup milk (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and garlic to the beef and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer thinly sliced potatoes over the beef and season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
- Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- Pour beef broth (or water) around the edges. Optionally drizzle milk for extra creaminess.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Make sure to brown the beef well and drain excess fat for a cleaner flavor.
- Slice potatoes evenly so they cook at the same rate.
- Let the casserole rest a few minutes before serving for easier slicing.
- Add vegetables like carrots or peas for extra nutrition.
