  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.
  5. Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.
  6. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
  8. Rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Swap provolone for mozzarella or Swiss.
  • For gluten-free, use almond flour or GF breadcrumbs.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate before baking.
