- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3 Tbsp whole milk or cream
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- Confectioner’s sugar for dusting
- Streusel topping: 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup rolled oats, 6 Tbsp cold butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Custard sauce: 6 large egg yolks, 6 Tbsp sugar, 1 1/2 cups whole milk, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
- Make custard sauce: whisk yolks and sugar, slowly add hot milk, cook over medium until thickened, stir in vanilla, sieve, chill.
- Make streusel topping: blend butter into flour, sugar, oats; refrigerate.
- Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs one at a time.
- Fold in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and milk/cream.
- Pour batter into pan, top with sliced apples and streusel.
- Bake 50–60 minutes until lightly browned and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool, remove from pan, dust with confectioner’s sugar, serve with custard.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith apples for tartness and structure.
- Custard sauce can be made ahead and chilled.
- Streusel topping adds extra texture and sweetness.
