This irresistible homemade croutons recipe is simple to make and bursting with Italian herbs, Parmesan, and garlic! Perfect for salads, soups, or snacking you’ll never want store-bought croutons again.

Ingredients

  • 2 generous cups bread (try a baguette or any good crusty bread), cut into croutons
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and position the rack in the middle. Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Cut bread into croutons and add to the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt & pepper, then toss with hands until combined.
  3. Spread croutons in an even layer (clustered but not stacked) and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over top.
  4. Bake for 10–15 minutes until golden and crisp. Let cool for a few minutes before using or storing in an airtight container.
  5. Save any fallen cheese bits—they’re great for adding flavor to salads.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh garlic (2–3 minced cloves) if preferred.
  • This recipe makes about 6 servings, enough for a large salad or a couple of smaller ones. Easily doubles if needed.
