Kentucky Derby Pie is a rich, gooey dessert that combines the flavors of pecan pie and a chocolate chip cookie. Loaded with nuts and chocolate chips in a buttery filling, it’s an indulgent and classic treat perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 slices 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 batch pie crust or store-bought pie shell
  • 1 cup (220 g) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (62.5 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (113.5 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup (144 g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1 cup (180 g) semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out pie dough slightly larger than the pie dish, transfer to pan, trim, fold, and crimp edges.
  3. Weigh down crust with pie weights or beans and bake for 20 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and melted butter.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in vanilla and salt.
  7. Fold in nuts and chocolate chips.
  8. Pour filling into partially baked crust.
  9. Bake 35–45 minutes until edges are set and center is slightly wobbly.
  10. Cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Do not overbake—the center should remain slightly soft for the best texture.
  • Use either walnuts or pecans depending on preference.
  • Cooling fully helps the filling set properly before slicing.
