This crispy air fryer orange chicken is full of flavor and easy to make. Naturally gluten free, dairy free, and refined sugar free, ready in about 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tbsp low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp plain gluten free breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp fresh grated ginger (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 23 tsp sriracha, to taste
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken cubes in tamari for 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 380°F.
  3. Toss chicken with cornstarch and breadcrumbs.
  4. Cook in air fryer in a single layer for 10–14 minutes, tossing halfway; chicken is done at 165°F internal temperature.
  5. Meanwhile, sauté garlic in oil until lightly golden.
  6. Add remaining sauce ingredients except water and cornstarch; simmer.
  7. Mix cornstarch and water, then whisk into sauce; simmer until thick, then remove from heat to thicken further.
  8. Let chicken cool a few minutes, then toss with half (or 2/3) of the sauce; reserve remaining sauce for serving.
  9. Serve immediately with steamed broccoli, rice, or enjoy as is.

Notes

  • If using full strength soy sauce, reduce to 2–3 tbsp to avoid overpowering flavor.
  • Honey can be substituted with other sweeteners; adjust sweetness to taste.
